Major James Murray was formally awarded his rank of Major by the Riksråd on 23 September 1640, when it was also decided that he should be given a lifetime's donation of two homesteadsi Vestergotland in Alvsborg region in reward for his service. It remain to be determined which of the individuals names James Murray this man was, as he had obviously been in Swedish service for quite some time at this point.
