In 1598, Alexander J. Nisbeth built one of the best houses in Elbing: Schmiedestrasse 10.  He had business dealings with William Baillie of Carnbroe [SSNE 8079].  Nisbet had a daughter, Catharine who married Johann Jungshulz, burgomaster of Elbing. Upon his death there began a dispute over the inheritance of his daughter with William Baillie.

Letter from the Court of Session to the Chancellor of Poland, or in his absence the Vice chancellor or the burgomasters of Warsaw requesting them to take and transmit to the said Court the evidence of those in their jurisdiction relative to the case raised by William Baillie of Carnbroe, formerly merchant in Poland, against Master George Nisbet and Alexander Mowat, executors of the late Alexander Nisbet, merchant at Mewe (Melvingi) in the Duchy of Prussia, in respect of a debt claimed as owed to him by the said Alexander Nisbet for goods purchased by him from the said William Baillie before his decease. Letter from the burgomaster and council (praeconsul et consules) of the royal city of Elbing in Prussia to the Chancellor and Court of Session in Scotland, explaining why in consequence of the Polish laws in respect of succession Alexander Mowat and John Nisbet, recommended to their favour by the said Chancellor and Court, had been excluded from the succession of Catharine, daughter of Alexander Nisbet and wife of Johann Jungshulz, burgomaster of Elbing. Letters of certification by the burgomaster and council (praeconsul et consules) of the royal city of Elbing in Prussia, that Johann Jungshulz, burgomaster of Elbing, had given notice before them that he revoked the procuratory made by him to Alexander Mowat, clerk to the Court of Session in Scotland, to act on his behalf for the collection of debts in Scotland owed to the late Alexander Nisbet, father-in-law to said Johann, and desisted wholly from the action raised on his behalf by said Alexander Mowat against William Balley. Letters of certification by the burgomaster and council of Elbing, at the request of Johann Jungschulz, burgomaster of Elbing, that by Polish law the inheritance of his wife, the daughter of the late Alexander Nisbet, should be divided equally between the said Johann and Andreas Lankagel, uncle of the said wife. Letters of certification by the burgomaster and council of the royal city of Old Warsaw, capital of the province of Masovia in the kingdom of Poland, that by Polish custom civil cases in respect of trade were tried by the burgomasters and councils of cities, with right of appeal to the Chancellor and thence to the King, but with no need of confirmation by the Chancellor if no such appeal was made by either party.
