Text source
Alexander Petrie appears in Stockolm town council records in 1633 with regard to an alleged debt owed to Hans Corgill of Danzig of 2076 florins on behalf of William (Welam) Liuse, also in Danzig. This dispute also involved one Hans Gardin who was owed money by Petrie as well Petrie, having paid the money, accuses Corgill of irregular trading practices, which Corgill denies. Petrie displays an official document produced by the Swedish Chancellor and presents witnesses - William Petrie [SSNE 6708], David Anderson, Hans Petrie, and Thomas Glenn [SSNE 6132] - revealing he has a certain standing amongst the Scottish merchant network in Stockholm.
Alexander Petrie became a burgess of Stockholm on 11 August 1634 and a man of this name was still serving as a notary and councillor in 1671. This latter Alexander Petrie's status as extraordinary councillor was contested. Previously he had also served as stads notarie (1664) and aktuarie in rådhussrätten (1661).
