In October 1589, Sten Bille was sent to Scotland from Norway to explain why James VI and his new bride had not arrived home. Bille was a late addition to the 1592 mission of Henrik Belov to Scotland. He acted as a diplomatic secretary. His full Kreditiv in this capacity came through in April 1593, when he travelled with Dr Neils Krag. He was recredited in June 1594 and May 1596. Thomas Riis makes no mention of the 1594 mission, though he does tell us that Bille acted in the capacity of ambassador.E.
