Text source
William Gib was a Scottish merchant operating in the North Sea and Baltic. On 28 December 1671, his uncle, Patrick Thomson [SSNE 6475], wrote to Andrew Russell [SSNE 143] from Stockholm saying that he was going to remit money drawn upon Mr Steven Deyier, merchant of Amsterdam for the account of his brother in law Mr Robert Gib (William's father) and that William Gib was to remit some more to Russell from Konigsberg. Initially this cash was to go from Konigsberg with men from that city but Thomson believed that Mr Jaffrey would get there first. He had therefore written to Thomas Bensone of Konigsberg to take some of the money and remit it to Russell on behalf of William GibNational Archives of Scotland, Russell Papers RH15/106/139/47.
