FAIRLIE, JAMES [SSNE 7171]
Text source
James Fairlie was a Scot living in Berlin in March 1688. From his letter to Andrew Russell [SSNE 143], Fairlie appears to have been in the retinue of David Melville Earl of Leven [SSNE 5000], who at that time was an officer in the service of the Duke of Brandenburg-Prussia. Fairlie asked Russell to receive the money of an enclosed bill, and when payed Russell was to inform him. The Bill appears to be in regard to a "gentill-woman" who was to be found at 100 St Sheeliss Lodging in EdinburghNational Archives of Scotland, Russell Papers, RH15/106/663. James Fairlie to Andrew Russell, 20 March 1688.
