Alexander Ross was a merchant operating in Copenhagen in July 1691. He wrote to Andrew Russell [SSNE 143] on 13 July to inform him "Sir though unaquainted I tak the freedom to advise you herewith as Cap [James] Wishard does by his advice that he has drauen on you payable to me 267:37 stievers in current money". Wishart [SSNE 7167] promised his money would be in Amsterdam and that he would try to pay Ross in London, so Ross asks Russell to try to avoid extra charges. Wisharts own advice was dated 11 July and was accepted by Russell on 3 August 1691. Throughout January 1704 Ross petitioned (successfully) for payement regarding planks and tar which John Midlecot in Bristol had delivered to the Danish Admiralty in 1689. Ross was one of several merchants who received compensatory malt worth 50rdl with regard to two ships they freighted to Spain with beer in 1705. In 1706 he shipped wine and brandy to the English fleet in the Sound from Elsonore and received reimbursment of customs for it to the tune of 31rdl 3mk 10s while in 1610 he still managed to get tak breaks from the treasury.
