James Halliday was a Scotsman settled and working in Sweden. He was a brewer who in 1676 was authorised to brew a specific quantity of malt. He is also noted as a wine-trader. He married Martha Du Val (also known as Märta Duwalt) (Petersdotter)  [SSNE 7360] on 29 August 1676 according to the records of the German congregation in Stockholm. As his wife remarried in April 1681, James must have died before then.
