Gabriel Turesson Oxenstierna was the son of Thure Oxenstierna [SSNE 6157], who was an Oxford graduate and Countess Sigrid Oxenstierna. Gabriel studied in Uppsala before serving as a volunteer in the Royal Navy in Britain in 1666 under Admiral Sprage. He returned to Sweden in 1667 where he continued to serve in a variety of naval and administrative functions. He was sent to the Hague in 1688 at Swedish diplomat and travelled with the Williamite regime to Britain c.1689. In 1691 he formally took over the role of Swedish envoy to Britain. It is said he could not come to London due to the Anglo-French hostilities, and instead followed the British king around Flanders. In 1693 his duties took him elsewhere. On 7 November 1690 he asked the Swedish resident in London, Christopher Leyoncrona to forward his letters to his unnamed cousin in IrelandSwedish Riksarkiv, Anglica 197, Ch.
