LEFFELL, DAVID [SSNE 6821]
Text source
David Leffell was a Scot who became involved in a court case against the Bergen burgess, Jesper Davidsen between 1592-1594. Leffell argued that Davidsen had swindled him out of some money during a cash exchange. Davidsen argued that Leffell could neither prove nor disprove this, but Davidsen's reputation in the city came into disrepute as a result. The outcome was that Leffell was fined and made to promise to leave Bergen and never come back. It is not known how long he had been in Bergen, but probably a while in order to give him clout enough to blacken Davidsen's nameNorske Samlinger, vol. I (Christiania, 1852), pp.276-278.
