PETRIE, GEORGE [SSNE 6788]
Text source
George Petrie was the son of the provost of Montrose of the same name. His mother was Regina Edmonston. George Petrie senior had three sons: George junior, Robert [SSNE 6787], and William [SSNE 6708] , all of whom ended up in Sweden.
Following their father's death in 1628, George Petrie and his brother Robert moved to Sweden to live with their older brother William, a burgess of Stockholm.
In 1635 George Petrie also became a burgess of Stockholm.
According to one account (Granqvist, Stockholmskt Borgarfolk) George Petrie subsequently returned to Montrose, where in 1661 he was listed as provost of the town.
However, George Petrie seemingly married in Stockholm and had three sons, all of whom remained in Sweden: Alexander who married Donat Feif's [SSNE 782] widow in Stockholm; Robert the younger and Jakob both were called to Arboga by their uncle, Robert active in the iron trade there, where they became burgesses in 1656.
