Anders/Andrew Porteous first appears in Swedish service in 1685, although little is known other than that by 1694 he was in Narva. He was presumably related to Jacob [SSNE 791] and Johan Porteous [SSNE 4925]. He was then made a military secretary in Estonia by royal appointment in 1700, dated Malmo 14 May 1700. In August 1703 General Otto Vellingk provided Porteous with a travel permit, for him and his wife, sister, mother-in-law and sundry other women and children to travel to Abo. On 21 November that year Porteus, wrote to the Swedish crown requesting permission to travel to Abo to seek another position. On 18 December that year the crown court at Abo wrote to the King regarding the regional governor, And. Porteus, who had been forced to leave his property on account of Russian encroachment. At one point he succeeded Assessor johan Godenhielm and he was in Stockholm in 1714, but his career continued until at least 1719.
