Text source

James Hume migrated from Scotland to Sweden around 1573 - one of the 2000 soldiers who were brought over by Archibald Ruthven [SSNE] for Swedish service at that time. That year he served as a witness in the case against Charles de Mornay, who was accused of trying to use Scottish mercenaries in Swedish service in a revolt against King Johan III. He may be the same Hume who was married to Elisabet Klasdotter and died on campaign in 1620. If so he is the father of Peter Hume [SSNE 2702]. According to Finnish sources he is the father of the Hume family in Finland
