Andrew Forsyth was the son of John Forsythe of Dundee (merchant) and Margaret Rankine of Dundee. Andrew became a merchant in Riga and applied to the Scottish Privy Council in March 1663 asking for a birthbrieve stating that he was a native born Scot and that he now lived and wished to remain in Riga, Livonia. This was granted under the Great Seal of Scotland in Edinburgh on 24 March 1663. A John Forsyth got involved in a dispute with an inheritance case involving Thomas Clayhill of Riga [SSNE 3831] and that John was probably Andrew's father.Register of the Privy Council of Scotland, 3rd series, I, 1661-1664, p.354; Register of the Great Seal of Scotland, vol.
