Arthur Jackson, a citizen of London and probably and Englishman, received a royal pass from King Christian IV of Denmark-Norway in 1609. This allowed him to sail north of Vardohus and trade with the Russians, although he was forbidden from trading with Norwegians between Bergen and Vardohus in a manner which would impinge on the Bergen and Trondheim burgessesNorske Rigsregistranter, vol.4 (1870), p.340.
