John Chadsley of Hull was fisherman who twice obtained royal passes from King Christian IV of Denmark-Norway, allowing him to sail north of Vardohus. In December 1609 he sailed with a 30-last ship called the Welcome. In September 1616 he received a pass for use the following summer with a larger 60-last ship called God's GraceNorske Rigsregistranter, vol.4, (1870), pp347, 604.
