David Lenteren was a relative of James Lenteren [SSNE 6562], who had a ship built in Norway in the 1590s. This was just when King Christian IV of Denmark-Norway had passed a law prohibiting foreigners from building ships in Norway and then taking them out of the country. However, through various supplications to the Crown the two Lenterens received special permission from the king to complete and remove their vessel and were indeed spared a trial in March 1599
