Text source

Constantin Ramsay was a Scot who in 1590 obtained royal permission from King Christian IV of Denmark-Norway to take a ship which he had bought out of Norway. Ramsay had bought the vessel from a burgess in Stavanger, but the civic authorities were not prepared to allow the ship to leave as the king had passed a law forbidding the removal of all vessels from Norway. Ramsay had sought help from King James VI to allow him to return unmolested
