Edward Kennoway lived in Danzig. On 16 July 1671 (f.1)he wrote to his brother noting that he had received the latter's first letter in Danzig in 1669. These mentioned his own earlier letters from Danzig and Konigsberg. John Purdie had been with Kennoway in Danzig but had since returned to Scotland. The letter also mentioned David Maxwell who had met with Purdie and was now in Danzig and also Kennoway's other brother James. On 5 April 1672 Edward sent another letter (f.2) mentioning brother James to John and also that he had written home via Maxwell. Between June 1672 and May 1673, Edward sent John another six brief letters which are brief and complain about the lack of letters from John. A longer letter was sent to John in June 1673 (f.9) noting that Edward had been in Stockholm and had got himself into "a laberinth of misery" in Sweden. He would have been better off had he had Patrick Maxwell's recommendation to any merchant there. By July 1673 (f.10) Kennoway was in London from where he wrote to John looking for help in establishing a venture between Stockholm and Danzig
