NEAVE, JOHAN [SSNE 6274]
Text source
Johan Neave, Baron of Gronso and Marby, was a son of Jacob Neave [SSNE 4218] and his wife Karin Hampe, the daughter of a Stockholm merchant, Jakob Hampe and his wife Dordi. He had three sisters, Marie [SSNE 6272], Vendla [SSNE 6273] and a third who married the later baillie at Gripsholm, Nils Pedersson Humbla. Johan like his father supported Sigismund of Poland's fight for the Swedish crown (he was the son of king Johan III of Sweden) and fled to Poland after his father's murder in 1598. Johan himself was eventually murdered by the duke of Brunswick's servant when he returned to Stockholm in 1607. There are references to both John Neave and James Neave in the Register of the Privy Council of Scotland, dated 14 November 1579 and 20 November 1579. The first is a letter from King James VI to King Frederick II of Denmark-Norway written on behalf of John Neave; the second is a letter from James VI to King John III of Sweden written on behalf of James Neave.
