Patrick Ogilvie was born on 12 February 1690 in Narva. He became a secretary in the Estlänska militia in May 1704, before serving as an NCO in the Nylands infantry regiment. Ogilvie was captured at Viborg on 15 June 1710. He did not return to Sweden until 1722, where he achieved the rank of lieutenant. Ogilvie was later promoted to captain and served on until at least 1749A. Lewenhaupt, Karl XII:s Officerare Biografiska anteckningar (2 vols., Stockholm, 1920), II, p.487.
