Johan Gustaf Irving was born in Närike in 1686. He served as a volunteer in the Vestmanlands regiment and eventually attained the rank of captain. He was captured with his brother at Poltava in 1709 and remained a prisoner until 1722. Two years after his release, Irving married Margareta Elsisabet Roos. He remained in the army, and was promoted to Major. He died in 1744A. Lewenhaupt, Karl XII:s Officerare Biografiska anteckningar (2 vols., Stockholm, 1920), I, p.324.
