Jacob Hamilton of Hageby was born in Sweden in 1698. He joined the army as an NCO in October 1712 and eventually became a Captain in the Södermanlands Regiment by 1723. He transferred to French service where he gained the rank of Marceal de Camp as well as becoming a Knight of St Louis. He died in 1767. In 1743 he married Caroline Lewenhaupt.
