Daniel Campbell was apparently a son of Major Charles Campbell [SSNE 2016] who had joined the Swedish army in 1609. Daniel lived in Wijnäs in Östergötland and served as an ensign in the Swedish army and also had some business transactions involving kopparmynt in 1664. He married Cathriana Grubbe and they had at least five children of whom the best known was their son, David, who was born in 1673. Daniel Campbell died before 4 January 1689. He is considered to be the same man as "David Campbell i Berenäs" named in the church records of 1667. Campbell wrote two letters to Jacob Momma-Rosencrantz between 1672-73, both from Wijnäs, regarding butter and grain.
