Rutger Belfrage was born in Gothenburg in September 1689. He joined the artillery as an NCO in August 1705 and served on in there, with one stint in the Livgard, until May 1717 reaching the rank of lieutenant. In 1713 he married Elsa Christina Soop and lived on until June 1751.
