Text source
Andrew Leith (Andrzej Leityc) is listed as a Scot in Kedany, Lithuania in 1679. Either he or a namesake was behind the formation of the first joint-stock company in Lithuania, Societatis Commerciorum, a project of nine K?dainiai Scots including the mayor of the town, 'Andrew Leith'. They described themselves as 'Nationis Magna Britannia', established contacts with other Scottish concerns in Königsberg, Danzig and Riga and sought investment from Britain and thus established a commercial network similar to those operating throughout the previous century.T.
