James Carmichael was elected an elder of the Cracow Congregation in 1642 and in 1644. He was buried on May 8 1655, then 70 years old, a merchant and citizen of Warsaw. He appears to have died of injuries sustained when he climbed his roof to see what was happening during the Swedish siege of Cracow. His daughter was buried on July 17 1665
