King James VI of Scotland had learned from his factor Patrick Gordon that Charles Angus, a citizen of Marienwerder, had married a local woman and suffered the same economic burdens as other citizens of the town, but was not able to fully enjoy his privileges. Even other Scots who were citizens were mistreating him. The king therefore requested that John Sigismund, Margrave of Brandenburg and Duke of Prussia to intercede on Angus' behalfA.F.
