On 8 August 1577 King Stephen of Poland granted John MacNeil, a Scottish merchant resident in Cowalow in the province of Kulm, the property of the late John Lenze, a Scottish citizen of Rogozno of illegitimate birth. MacNeil had been a partner of Lenze's and the Polish king hoped that he would be able to repay Lenze's debts
