Archibald Primrose (1661-1723), was the eldest son of Archibald Primrose of Carrington and Agnes Gray of Pittendrum. He entered Imperial service in Hungary in 1680. In 1688 he received an appointment as Gentleman of the Bedchamber to Prince George of Denmark. By 1695 he was back in Scotland as an MP for Edinburgh County. He was created Viscount Roseberry in 1700 and Earl Primrose and Dalmeny on when Queen Anne came to the throne. Primrose served as a Scottish commissioner to discuss the Union with England and thereafter as a Scottish peer in the House of Lords.
