Lt. Colonel James Douglas served as in the army of Hugh Mackay. In 1697 he had been promoted from captain to lt.-colonel and served in the Scots Foot Guards. It is possible that this is the same man who served as an ensign in Colonel Lauder's regiment in 1694.J. Ferguson, Papers Illustrating the History of the Scots Brigade in the service of the United Netherlands,1572-1697 (Edinburgh, 1899), pp.572-3.
