Robert Farquhar was from Aberdeen. He was a Scottish officer in the Danish-Norwegian army in 1626. He served as paymaster in Colonel Donald Mackay's [SSNE 93] regiment. He had a close relationship with the Colonel as Farquhar had been foster father to Mackay's son John, who subsequently became the 2nd Lord Reay. He must have returned to Aberdeen after King Christian IV signed the treaty of Lubeck with the Habsburg Emperor. In the 1630s Farquhar was a merchant burgess in Aberdeen. He later obtained some property and became Farquhar of MaunieT. Riis, Should Auld Acquaintance Be Forgot (Odense, 1988), II, p.130 ; J.
