George Lauder was the son of Colonel George Lauder of Halton [SSNE 4981] George Lauder received his commission in 1678 and thereafter served as a Sergeant-Major [1685] before being promoted to the command of a Scottish regiment of the Dutch army as colonel (1689-1692) and was again listed as a colonel in 1698 and commanded his regiment until 1716. He received promotion to Brigadier in 1702 and from 1704 he became a Major-General of the Dutch army [14 April]. His final promotion was to Lieutenant-General on 1 January 1709. Between 1689-1691, Lauder's regiment served in England and Scotland on behalf of William of Orange. In particular, Lauder had the task of securing Stirling Castle, before moving to secure the pass of Killikrankie. In 1692, the three Scottish regiments formed part of the British army in the Low Countries. lauder had been wounded and taken prisoner at the battle of St Omer. His regiment were heavily defeated at Steinkirk where contemporary sources say they were left to their fate by their allies. Lauder was again taken prisoner that day. He was also captured at landen. In private life, lauder married Elizabeth Wilhelmina van GentJ.
