Johannes Mordison/Morrison was born in Scotland in 1568 and attended Helmstadt University in 1588. He then went to the Dutch Republic in 1598, with a view to founding a school in Middelburg. Between 1599 and 1605 he acted as a lecturer and then senior lecturer in Physics and the Art of Rhetoric at Leiden university. He died in Leiden in 1605 and was replaced by fellow Scot Gilbert Jachaeus.
