MURRAY, WILLIAM [SSNE 4852]
Text source
William Murray, a 'Protestant Burgess of Batavia' appears in records in 1680. He must have been around for some time before that date in order to gain citizenship of the town. He fell out with the VOC for some reason and escaped to Bantam. The Dutch wanted the English to hand him over and in their 'Council of India' they agree to forbid the purchase of wheat until he was returned. However, Murray had already travelled to Madraspantam and Bellesoor on the English ship The President. He died there on 10 September 1680.
