Magnus Williamson was the son of Gabriel Williamson of Scottish nobility, and was born in Scotland in the 1650s. He emigrated to Sweden in the early 1670s and was because of his skills was taken into the fortifications department. In 1675 he was 'konduktor' (head) of the fortifications with Carl Gustaf Wrangel's army in Pomerania. The following year he was a regimental quarter-master in Nils Gyllenstierna's cavalry regiment and in 1677 he was a master of horse there. He was ennobled in 1679 and he was introduced to the house of nobility in 1680. In 1679 he was transferred to the Jamtland regiment. In 1703 he was a major in the Uppland 'femmanings' cavalry regiment. He left military service because the Swedish king would not confirm him. He was still alive in 1712 but had died by 1723.
