DUWALL, MAURITZ [SSNE 481]
Text source
Mauritz Duwall matriculated at Uppsala University in 1658 with his brother Axel, [SSNE 478]. They were descendants of the Scottish Macdougalls who migrated to Sweden and settled there in the early seventeenth century. After graduating from university, Mauritz joined the Swedish army, recruited in September 1663. At first he served as a 'forare' with the Uppland regiment, then as an ensign by 1665. He became a lieutenant in 1671 and by 1678 he had attained the rank of captain.
