Text source
Peter Fife was born in 1635, the son of James Fife [SSNE 4779] and his wife Karen/Catharina Olofsdotter. James had migrated to Sweden in the 1620s. Peter became a kryddkrämare, or druggist. Peter married Maria Hoff and they had four sons, Casten [SSNE 6281], Peter[SSNE 6683], Johan[SSNE 6684] and Jakob. Casten was ennobled in 1705 on providing proof of his father's Scottish noble origins, and became a baron in 1715. His uncle was Donat Fife [SSNE 782], burgess of Stockholm. It is possible that J. Donat Fife, who matriculated in Uppsala in the 1640's, was Peter's cousinSvensk Biografisk Lexikon, vol. 15, pp. 507-510; G. Elgenstierna, Svenska Adelns Ättartavlor, vol. 1, pp.676-677; H.
