Jakob Cahun or Cavun is said by Möller to have been the son of Hans Persson Cahun. He was certainly born in Gothenburg in 1660. Jakob served as a 'hantlaggare' with the artillery in 1676 and an underofficer there in 1677. By 1683 he was an apprentice constable and two years later he was a full constable. In 1687 he was an under 'fyrverkare' and a full 'fyrverkare' in 1689. The next two years he spent in the Dutch army in Flanders and participated in the battle at Fleurus. By 1697 he was an Ensign in Gothenburg and in 1700 he served as a lieutenant there. Jakob transferred to the Malmo artillery later that year. In 1712 he was a captain in the artillery when he was transported to Stralsund. He departed from service in 1719 and died in 1739. There is a lot of debate surrounding some scottish families with certain surnames. Möller is convinced this man is a Cahun, yet, in the Gothenburg Regional Archives, a letter exists which describes a man with an identical service record but described as the son of James Cavun till Canonhielm [SSNE 2005]. That man was stated to have been in service for 19 years by 1694
