Bertil Knudsen was the son of Knud Nielsen Nordrup, parson of Kongsted. He attended school at Herlufsholm and travelled extensively through France, Italy, Asia Minor, England and Scotland. He apparently studied at St. Andrews between 1606 and 1609. Knudsen went on to become chaplain of Malmo castle and in 1619 he became rector of Loderup.
