Text source
William Wallace arrived in Sweden in 1573. By 1580 he had command over a troop of 9 Västgöta horsemen. By 1581 he was a captain of horse, and that year his troop of Västgöta cavalry is noted on the military payroll. Wallace's troop also appear on the 1582 and 1583 payrolls and it appears he retained his captaincy until 1585. During this time he was active in the war against Russia between 1580 and 1583. He is also noted as a "stallhallare" in Ingermanland in 1586.He is possibly the same as William Wallace, governor of Jamagorod castle in 1580 [SSNE 1770]Swedish Riksarkiv, Militieräkenskaper 1537-1619, 1581, 1582, 1583, 1584, 1585; Kungl.Västgöta Regimente Personhistoria 1540-1723, p.43; L.W.
