John Montgomery (Jean de Montgomri) is noted as a count who 'kapitulerede' to place a regiment of 2500 to 3000 soldiers recruited in France in Danish service in 1627. He was appointed Colonel of a regiment of foot (3000 men) or of 600 dragoons on 9 April 1627; he further obliged himself to levy 2500 men from the French infantry and to muster them in the Sound region March 1628. That year he was also in litigation with one of his captains, Lagrance, by 2/3/1628. He took part in the reconquest of Femern in April 1628, but was wounded by the peasants there
