GARIOCH, GEORGE [SSNE 3888]
Text source
Captain George Garioch. This is possibly the man they meant when they said "a certain captain Garioch was not good enough to be a captain, and a certain Stuart was not good enough to be a soldier". George Garioch was hired in 1647 in Holland to serve the Tsar together with James Stewart and William Bruce. Despite his unimpressive display of skills at a muster he was not turned down.
