SPANG, ANDREW [SSNE 3546]
Text source
Andrew Spang served in the Swedish army in William Baillie's regiment in 1631-1633. During the Torstensson War between Denmark-Norway and Sweden 1643-1645, a Scottish Lt. Colonel, Andrias Spang (most probably the same man), enlisted in the Norwegian army with some other recruited troops. These were dispersed into the Tønsberg and Båhus regiments. Spang himself became lieutenant-colonel for a recruited regimentt between 26/03/1644 and 18/08/1644. He left then to go to Danzig to recruit more troops and returned in October of the same year. There is a reference to a claim for his expenses in 1651, but these seem to relate to the end of his service in August 1645.Swedish Krigsarkiv, Muster Roll, 1631/15-21; 1632/10-21; 1633/11-18; Norwegian Rigsarkiv, Danske Kanselli, Skaapsaker II 112201, Skaap 9 - pakke 62A, 4A08326, 9 June 1651, 'Afregning med de 2de skodske oberster Jacob Wolse og Spang'; O.
