Francis David Sinclair was the son of Anders Sinclair. He was born in 1677 and became a student at Uppsala in 1688. He served as a forare in the Helsinge regiment in 1695. The following year he was a sergeant but became a lieutenant in 1700 and a second captain in 1701. Sinclair later transferred to Ducker's dragoon regiment in 1705. By 1706 he had made first captain. He was captured by the Russians at Perevoltnja [Poltava]. He was released in 1722 and departed from the army two years later with the rank of major.
