John Ramsay is listed as a corporal in James Ramsay's [SSNE 3315] regiment in 1628. The Regimental Scribe for this regiment is also called John [SSNE 1588], but the corporal is the more likely one to have become the ensign. Thereafter he is listed as ensign in 1631
