Anders Eric Ramsay was born on 16 October 1646 and joined the army in 1664. He became an ensign in 1665 in Wrangel's cavalry and a lieutenant in H K Kock von Crimstein's cavalry regiment the following year. Ramsay thereafter became a captain of horse in the Nylands and Tavastehus area cavalry regiment in 1671. He was lieutenant colonel in Nyland and Tavastehus cavalry's 'fordubbling' in 1678 (one source notes this as 1684). He was colonel and chief of the regiment in 1700 and was promoted major-general and regional governor in Västerbottens län in 1713. Ramsay left service on 28 March 1723 and died in May 1734 on Jackarby. He is buried in Borgå church. He had been married to Dorothea Sophia Ritter.
