Henry Primrose was born in Scotland and entered Swedish service as an officer in 1623. His military career began as a lieutenant in James Spens' regiment in 1629 where he became captain in 1632. He was a full major in 1638 with the Östgöta infantry regiment. In 1651, Primrose became commandant of Johannisborg castle and was still there in 1661. He was ennobled in 1653, and introduced into the Swedish house of nobility in 1655 under nr.640. He died in 1669. He was married to Elisabet Edger (Egden) and they had seven children. There relationship between him and John/Hans Primrose [SSNE 814], burgess of Stockholm is unclear, but they did co-sign a letter to Magnus De La Gardie.
