David Auchterlony served in William Bellenden's [SSNE 1969] regiment in Sweden in 1632. Part of this regiment participated at the battle of Lutzen in 1632 under the command of Ludovick Leslie. Auchterlony was probably the 'Captain Atherlony' noted as having a company under James Marquis of Hamilton [SSNE 1348] in June 1630 and for whom Bellenden was lieutenant-colonel. Auchterlony was allowed to recruit for Hamilton in Middlesex and Surrey.
