Gerret Macodi served as a colonel in the Danish-Norwegian army, mostly in Norway. He is noted as an Irishman of French nobility by Ovenstad. He was a lieutenant in the Oplenske infantry regiment from 6 August 1657, apparently hired from Holland and paid the same rate as his Dutch pay since 12 July. He was paid off in April 1658. In September that year he was a captain in the same regiment and became chief of the Hall.dalske company. That month Frederik III appointed him a major, and he was to receive a major's salary until he could be placed as a major in a suitable regiment, though the Sollied Arkiv notes show his still serving as a captain until 1670. On 20 October 1668, the king sent instructions to the Norwegian vice-roy to help Macodi receive payment for his outstanding debt in Norway. The following year an instruction from the king dated 10 November 1669 indicated that Joachim Frederik von Bassen was to take over Macodi's company as soon as Macodi received his long awaited major's position. In April 1674 he became a major in the Bergenhus infantry regiment and chief of the S. Sondhordlenske company. By 1676 he was a colonel in Coucheron's regiment. From April until September 1679 he served as the commandant at Bergenhus fort. He was still in receipt of a salary in Bergen in 1682, and two years later he was the chief of Bergenhus marine battalion. During 1688 he was in Denmark for the whole year. From February 1689 he was the colonel of the Bergenhus national infantry regiment and chief of the N. Sonhordlenske company. He married Marie Josine de Briers [called in the Sollied Arkiv Marie Jorgensdatter Blickinand] in 1663 and a letter survives from Frederik III to Bishop Henning Stockfleth allowing the marriage to take place at home and granting them permission to attend church, school and other institutions. Macodi died 11 January 1690. He perhaps was the father of Ester Macodi noted in the Sollied Arkiv as having married in 1701.R. Fladby and G.
